Calling in info from a master list

I have a master list of data that I am compiling, a portion of which I will need in a separate list on a separate excel workbook each year. Each entry on the master list will have a unique number (like a key) that can be searched. I want to be able to just populate my yearly list by entering this number. Once I do that, I can add the year-specific information I need for the rest of the entry.
I tried to use the DGET function with no luck and am not sure what direction to head next. I suspect I might need an array formula, but have never used one. Anybody have any ideas of how to do this?
