Pivot table sum dates by month

Is there a way that I choose the column date in the Pivot table and that it gives me a total per month?
Let me explain. In database I have a column wherer I fill in the date. For example I have 5 dates in January and 10 dates in february and for each date a value in another column. Now I want to create Pivot table that gives me "jan 11", feb 11" etc which as value the total of 5 and 10 values respectively.

Yes. Pivot Table offers Grouping Functionality... right click on a date in the pivot and choose to Group - given requirements you should Group by Years & Months.

To Group it is imperative that every value in the Date field column of your data set is a date value (no interspersed text, blanks etc...)
