    Need help separating names

I have tried multiple solutions for separating the first, middle, and last name on an excel document. I've tried text to columns, and certain functions with no avail. I'm curious though; the first name is the only one that will separate into multiple columns while the rest don't move. Any help is appreciated!

This is for work so the faster the help the sooner I can sleep. Thanks!

How is your information organized? You might need to use the correct delimiter for Text to Column since Fixed Width won't work since names have different lengths. Also are you replacing the contents of the destination cells when it prompts you to?

Well, I'm sort of new to excel so I'll try to provide as much info as possible. My names are organized as first name, middle initial, and last name, they're all in column A. I'm not sure how to replace the contents of the destination cells.

Excel automatically prompts you to replace the contents of the destination cells. As long as you don't have any information that will be overwritten in the adjacent columns B & C you won't have to worry about it.

Highlight your Column A and go to Data -> Text to Column and use Delimited -> Use Comma (and possibly Space) and finish.

I tried that as stated in my original post. Only the full name will transfer over. The rest of the names have no change. I highlight my full A column -> Text to Column -> Space -> Finish, and only the first full name will go the B column, the rest stay in A column with no change. This excel file was emailed to me through work and so maybe they changed things before they sent it to make it so it can't be changed?

I have tried copying and pasting all names in a new excel document and it still won't work.

    Re: Need help separating names

Sorry I haven't been much of a help since I'm pretty confused.

This is what we're looking at:
-The full name is in Column A
-The names are separated First, Middle Initial, Last (with commas or no commas?)
-Only the first name transfers over

If it's separated by commas, use the comma as a delimiter. Can you upload a small sample so I can see what's going on?
