This will return the total number of rows in A2:A20 that contain "Excel", not case sensitive.
Or

If this is not what you need, post a sample workbook showing your typical data, the string to search for, and the expected result.

thanks so much it really helps..how about if there is 2 context for example expired & canceled???
Add to Countif's together.. one for "Expired" and one for "Canceled"
