Batch renaming possible in Excel?

Hi,

I've about 300 webpages

example:
webpage1,htm
webpage2.htm
webpage3,htm
webpage4.htm

etc all the way up to 300.

I need to rename each one with a new name. I've all the names in a spreadsheet / notepad file.

Can excel rename and save the new files?

Long shot i know but i can't rename 300 files it would kill me and i'll have 100's more over the next few weeks.

Any help would be great

Excel doesn't have the built-in capability to do this but you're in luck. I built a macro to do this a couple of weeks ago.

I was kind of expecting some questions about how it works but maybe it is easier than I thought. My idea was that it generates a list of files in a directory, and duplicates the list on right. You can use Find & Replace to make changes to the second list, then hit the button to make it rename the files. It never occurred to me that anybody but me would use it, so let me know if anything is unclear.

BTW this is much, much faster than I thought it would be. I didn't believe it was really doing anything until I checked and saw that the file names were changed.
