    help with autosum

    Hi All,

i am in need of some help, i am a good user of excel 7, although my skills are a little below the skill level i need to complete the following task. and any help would be appreaciated.. Or even better, if someone is willing to complete this for me all the better

    ok.

i have an excel spreadsheet with two sheets, the first sheet is as follows.

    Column 1 - a number i allocate
    Column 2 - Address postcode
    Column 3 - Address street
Column 4 - House numbers in postcode
Column 5 - total number of houses in postcode.

    sheet two is as follows

    column 1 - Persons Name
Column 2 - Persons allocated number
Column 3 - Total allocated houses

now at the moment i am doing this manually but would like to set the sheet up so it does it itself..

when i allocate a number to sheet 1 column 1, i need sheet 2 column 3 to add up.

in other words, i need sheet 2 column 3, to look at sheet one, and anywhere that

    column 1 sheet 1 = column 2 sheet 2

Add together all of column 5 sheet 1, and put the result in column 3 sheet 2

i hope i have explained that.. if not here is a quick example

    sheet 1

    3 TS1 4PG Aire Street ,,MIDDLESBROUGH 51-97,48-106 54
    8 TS1 4PQ Aire Street ,,MIDDLESBROUGH 3-49,2-46,46a 48
    3 TS1 4NW Chester Street ,,MIDDLESBROUGH 1-33,2-32 33
    8 TS1 3GA Constantine Court ,,MIDDLESBROUGH 1-11,15-73,2-74 73

    Re: help with autosum

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
    Hope that helps.
