    hi

i have a column with dynamic values, they may change depending on the user input

    say from a1 to a25
each cell is dynamic subject to user input (monthname)

i have two columns with values

    column i column j
    may a
    june b
    july c
    augusta d
    september e
    october f
    november g
    december h
    january i
    february j

now based on the user input (month)

    Re: How to attain matching

    Isn't it just

    =Vlookup(A1,$I$1:$J$12,2,FALSE)

where I1:I12 contain the lookup table.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Re: How to attain matching

What exact formula did you use?

Is the lookup table array wide enough to extract from the column number indicated?

    =VLOOKUP(EI79,$DX$28:$DY$39,DY29,FALSE)

ei179 to ei365 contains the values that DYNAMICALLY CHANGE DEPENDING on the start month

    below is the lookup table

    DX28 DY29
    ----------------------------------------
    MAY DMY
    JUNE DJU
    JULY DJY
    AUGUST DAU
    SEPTEMBER DSP
    OCTOBER DOC
    NOVEMBER DNV
    DECEMBER DDC
    JANUARY DJA
    FEBRUARY DFB
    MARCH DMR

    thanks

    The DY29 should be 2:

    =VLOOKUP(EI79,$DX$28:$DY$39,2,FALSE)
