Help with grocery 'who owes who' spreadsheet

I'm making a roommate 'who owes who' money grocery spreadsheet. Basically the part I cant figure out how to do is:

If cell C1 = "Add" then take B1 ($ value) and lookup the name entered in cell A1 and add it to the same name of A1 total sum total in cell D1.

Thanks for the reply. Not quite what I have in mind. See the attachment, this is what I have going at the moment.

What I'm trying to do is if L7 = Add, then take the value of K7 and add it to the sum of the purchaser of that line by searching for name in cell D7 and adding to the value in P3.

What the main question is how do I search for a name in a cell and tell it to add to the same name in a different cell?
