linking a textbox to a cell

I have a text box linking to cell A4 that contains '$20,000', but the text box is displaying '20000'. I'd like it display the exact same thing that is in the cell. I figured out how to add the $ by making another cell ='$'&A4', but I cannot figure out to make sure the comma is included. The 20,000 value can change and I'd like the text box to change too. Thanks in advance!

The textbox is linked to a cell that is actually a combination of text and numbers. so im not sure that the format code would work.

If the cell is a combination of text and #'s, Excel should see it as a string (i.e. text) and bring it across just as it is. Can you upload an example spreadsheet (just showing those two things cell and textbox)?

Re: linking a textbox to a cell

The chart has two text boxes to calculate the distribution totals. The text box on the left references a cell, but doesn't have a comma for the number. The text box on the right was manually typed, has no reference, and has a comma. Ideally, I'd like to have it reference a cell, so that it will update automatically when the amounts change, and also include seperators for numbers over 999. Thanks!

I don't quite get what your issue is but I can add my little grain of salt to the salad. Your formula on G9 should provably look better the following way:
    =F6&" - "&DOLLAR(SUM(G3:G4),0)
