Excel 2007 : Need formula to return the quantity of particular value from data set

For my dissertation, I am compiling a list of the qualities of certain characteristics of Stravinsky's music. Each of the examples will receive a score (presently ranging from -3 to 6). Each of the scores is lined up neatly in the same column. I need a formula that will search the column and tell me precisely how many of a particular score can be found in that column.

It's probably quite simple, but it's something I've never had to attempt before.

Perhaps you need COUNTIF?

e.g.

=COUNTIF(B1:B100,-3)

This looks in range B1:B100 and counts the number of -3 's it finds.
