How are you entering your start and stop dates? Are they entered in cells (i.e. A1, A2) as dates?

substitute commas with semi-colons if your region settings requires

I'm adding them as dates.
A1 = 01/01/2011 although formatted to appear as Jan 11
A2 = 01/04/2011 although formatted to appear as Apr 11

In truest sense elapsed months for you sample dates would be 3 rather than 4.![]()

If the latter date (A2) is to be seen as representing that month in it's entirety (ie all of April) then add 1 to the above result
