Convert value on entry based on adjacent column value

    Hi,

I have a spreadsheet with 2 columns. Columnt A contains names and column B contains 6 digit ID numbers associated with those names. I need a formula or a VBA code that will convert any entry of names to that 6 digit ID number. So if I'm given a name and I enter it in a cell, the formula or code in that cell will automatically covert it to 6 digit ID number. Is that even possible?

    Thank you.

So you want to enter a name in a cell in Column A (say A3) and have the 6-digit ID number appear in Column B (B3)?

Can you derive the ID code from the name or do you have to look that up somewhere (i.e., a table that is or can be in your spreadsheet)?

No. I want to enter a name in column A (say A3) and have the code convert that entry to the 6 digit ID number in that same cell (A3). There is a table with names (column A) and ID numbers (column B) on a separate sheet (Sheet1).
