Cool Conditional Formatting Plus a Variable from another Column

Conditional Formatting plus a variable from another column

    Hi guys,
I’ve tried to look at other similar questions and then modify the answer to suit my need but haven’t been able to come up with anything. I was hoping that someone here could help me with this problem.

First off I don’t know if this is a conditional formatting thing or not, but that’s what I’ve been trying.

I would like a color indicator to let me know if one of my items gets within a month (or 30 days) of the due date. That’s no problem, I’ve been using conditional formatting – formula equals – =(C3-TODAY())<30

Now for the tricky part… It only needs to turn orange when it gets within 30 days and the cell E3 does not equal the word COMPLETED.

If you would be so kind as to bestow your wisdom onto me I would be eternally grateful. Thanks so much.

    Arthur,
Thanks for taking a shot at it. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to do the trick. In fact it gave some very odd results.

I guess this is more complex than I originally thought.

I'm trying to figure out if you can do this using multiple conditionals. I'm no expert, but I think that might be possible using your forumla and a secondary conditional.

You might have to experiment with the order to get it to work correctly. If I can get it figured out, I'll post the solution (I'm currently working on an ugly excel issue of my own).

The first conditional takes precedent, so you could set it up to turn (for example) green, if your cell says completed, then set the second conditional to turn red if it is within 30 days of due. I think it may be easier to just use cell value, but your formula should work too.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

I've cut a section out of the workbook that I'm working on now and put in some generic text.

    I really appreciate the help.

    Hi
    Thanks for your upload
Your date is not formatted as date but text that is why post # 2 is not working. set your due date to some date format.

If in your due date column dates are day and month (if i understand correctly)
Then a different approach is used

    Check attached sheet

For whatever reason the SOW has the dates listed as month/year and you're suppose to just know that it's on the last day of the month... I guess I'll have to go through and update the dates so they reflect the month/day/year format.

With that said, please forgive my excel ignorance, which of the many formulas in your workbook should I use?

You guys have some very impressive Excel knowledge. I'm struggling just to understand them even after you all have constructed them lol.

Format the date as month / day / year (mm/dd/yyy) and use formula in post No. 2

    This will work

    Thanks
