    Valadation list (text font)

I’m using Excel 2007 – and would like to know if it is possible to use symbols in my data validation list?

I basically have a range A5:A56 which contain all the playing cards in a deck (Displayed as 3S) where the S is replaced by the spade symbol.

When I use a drop down list the spade symbol is displayed as ª

Is there anyway to change the text font of the drop down list – or get around this problem another way?

I guess combo boxes are the way to go – but really don’t know anything about them.

    Thanks in advance

Here's a quick lesson on comboboxes but I don't think it will solve your problem. You can control the font in a combobox, but you can't mix fonts like you can in a cell.

I have created the range like you described but I haven't tried to put symbols in there. Then I created a combobox using these steps

Right click on some blank space in your toolbar area, a toolbar menu should appear
Check the box for Control Toolbox
Click the leftmost icon, it looks like a triangle, ruler, and pencil
    Click the icon for combobox
Draw a combobox in the worksheet
    Right click on the combobox
Set ListFillRange to the range with your list of cards
Set LinkedCell to some cell, which will contain the value chosen by the user from the combobox.

What font are you using to create your suit symbol?

Your profile says 2003, which is what I always look at first. I just noticed your post mentions 2007. I suggest you update your profile.

The technique I described is the same in both but the menu sequence to create the combobox is different in 2007.

Replace the first 4 steps above with

    Developer
    Insert
    ActiveX controls, combobox

    The rest is the same.

Thanks 6String worked a treat. Btw I am using the text font "Symbol" to chose the suits.

I will update my profile too.
