Red face Keeping a Selection When Viewing Another Program

I am trying to make it possible to view a selection from another program. This would be especially helpful to know for dual-monitor users.

Basically, when I click on a cell (or a row/column/whatever), it gets highlighted. However, when switching to view another program, it appears de-selected in Excel. So let's say I have Excel open on one screen, and a web page open on another. All I'm trying to do is compare a row of data to what is on the site, yet if I make the browser active, it no longer appears highlighted in Excel, so it is much harder to locate the row than is necessary.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the data highlighted no matter which program is active? This would of course disqualify copying the whole row to leave the dotted line around it, or changing the color/formatting, as viable solutions.

Bump. I know I can't be the first/only person to wonder how this is done.
