I need a formula to look for the first and last date in a calendar and auto place them in a header area on the calendar.

Put this formula in D1:
=TEXT(MIN(A3:E22),"M/D/Y") & " - " & TEXT(MAX(A3:E22),"M/D/Y")
I used a more standard format since yours was .... sorry.... weird.
