    Excel Graph

    Hi All,

Im trying to create a graph with two different color tones but cannot seem to get the lower one to copy formatting.

Please can you see the example and assist ?

Basically I would like the values which are currently white in the non working graph to be red like the above.

Does the formatting need to be applied to the graph or the data ? There are graphs per worksheet.

It was working fine for the "2010" version of the data i was working on however now i've created a new document for 2011 i cannot replicate the formatting.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

there is nothing red in any of the charts in your attached file.

Can you be more specific about what you want to be colored?

What do you mean by 2010 and 2011 version? The chart data is not included in the file, but linked to an external file, so it's hard to troubleshoot.

Thats interesting, If you open the document in 2003 the chart is red however if you open in 2007 it remains white.

    Hello,

assuming you're using Excel 2003: select the data series and format it with a Fill Effect, select two colors and select blue for color 1 and red for color 2. Do NOT tick Invert If Negative and hit OK.

The columns will now show a gradient pattern.

Then format the series again and tick Invert if Negative and tick the blue color and hit OK. The red will show for the negative values.

There is something funny going on with charts formatted with Invert if Negative in later versions of Excel, which I have not quite figured out.

    cheers,

    re: Excel Graph

xl2007 does not do Invert if Negative properly. You simple get the White fill.
    In xl2010 this is fixed.

There has be a posted work around that may suffice.

Simplest approach is to use 2 series as cluster column and set the overlap to 100. Data values for each series would be determined by formula based in pos/neg value of original data point.
