Excel 2007 : City State Lookup Match formula help

I hope someone can help with issue i'm having. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish: I have 2 separate excel workbooks that i work with for this equation, i need to lookup and match the city and state and then pull back the population of each. (i the formula for that already completed) My problem that i'm running into is some of cities in one workbook are labeled for ex. Ft worth, TX while in the other workbook its labeled ex. Fort Worth, TX. So on my lookup they are not matching. Is there a formula that can help me still match even with abbreviations?
