    overlapping conditional formatting

    Good Morning,

I was just enquiring as to whether it's possible to overlap conditional formatting on the same cell?

Obviously not the same type (i.e. fill colour). One cell condition would be fill, and the other border?

Attached is a screenshot of my calendar I use at work.

Legend: Green are RDO's, Blue is Public Holidays & Purple is Annual Leave. The orange is pay day for the month, however on the instance pay day falls on either one of these days the first option stays, and consequently the second does not show. Defeating the purpose of a visual enhancement.

My query is, is there a way to change the conditional format so that if pay day was a border, and it clashed with an RDO on the same day - it would fill the cell with the appropriate colour, and apply the border as well?

    Hello,

with Excel 2007 you can do this. Set up your rules based on formulas and do not tick "Stop if True" in the Rules Manager, then several different conditional formats can be applied at the same time.

    Thanks teylyn!

    That's perfect.

However it modified the fonts, and now I can't modify them back!!!

Hard to analyse what you're doing without seeing your workbook. A screenshot does not help much.

    Hi teylyn,

Sorry my friend if you weren't aware it was Australia Day here yesterday and I knocked off early on the day you responded.

Anyway, the format of the font in the conditional formating rules says it should be Calibri, but it displays on my screen as Times New Roman. I'm trying to remove the sensitive information I don't want viewed but it's taking a while...

I'm not terribly worried, and would consider this matter solved. It's just an aesthetic thing.

If my ramblings make sense, I eagerly await your response - but if not I'll post up the sheet as soon as I remove the information I don't want sent.

    Re: overlapping conditional formatting

You cannot set the font type with conditional formatting.

In principle, you can only set formatting that does not impact on the height and/or width of the cell, i.e. colour, border, strikethrough, Number format (which will be cut off or displayed as #### if it exceeds the cell width).

I'd like to see a conditional format that changes the font type, if you have it.

    cheers

    Re: overlapping conditional formatting

That wasn't what I meant teylyn... but it's okay.

This morning I removed all the conditional formatting rules and re-entered them. It now displays in the font I wanted, and not Times New Roman.

Thanks again for your prompt help!

How about the same problem in Excel 2003, any way to solve it?
