I've been trying for hours to do the following:
I have two columns not next to each other -- i.e. A and F. I want to count how many times the number 1 appears in the same row in both columns.
I've tried various countif and sumproduct formulas but nothing is right. I'm not sure what I'm missing.
Any help appreciated.
If as implied by your profile you're using XL2007 then use COUNTIFS

will get desired result

I'm afraid not - it would simply count how many times 1 occurs in the entire data set (we also don't know if there is numeric content B:E)
