Hi all,

Tried searching around the web for this answer, it seems to get asked from time to time but maybe I'm too much of an Excel novice to implement the solution. Here goes:

I'm not crunching numbers or formulas - I use Excel to manage movie lists, and one of my least favorite tasks is taking data from one column:

Film Name x (Director's Name x)
Film Name y (Director's Name y)
Film Name z (Director's Name z)
Film Name a (Director's Name a)
Film Name b (Director's Name b)
Film Name c (Director's Name c)
Film Name d (Director's Name d)

and converting it to two columns, where there'll be, in Column B:

Film Name x
Film Name y
Film Name z
Film Name a
Film Name b
Film Name c
Film Name d

and, preceding it, Column A:

Director's Name x
Director's Name y
Director's Name z
Director's Name a
Director's Name b
Director's Name c
Director's Name d

And we're talking thousands of lines. I don't mind typing up Column A manually, but what would be great is if I could take Film Name x (Director's Name x) and delete the parenthetical text, and the parentheses themselves.

If the answer is a formula, could you also tell me where to paste the code? Because, as I mentioned earlier, lots of this stuff is over my head. Thanks!

Jaime
