Can't add sheets

I have a 24 page excel (MO ‘07) workbook with some simple formulas working within the workbook. I’ve recently noticed a problem when i tried to add or delete a sheet. when i right click the sheet the only options highlighted (available) are: view code, protect sheet or select all sheets. What is wrong?

Yes! Boy do i feel dumb. i thot i checked that already.
