    Disappearing numbers

Could anyone tell why and how I can change my cells show I can have my numbers appear.

I have a 45 number column (K) setup with the following formula:

    =IF(OR(ISNUMBER(FIND($B$7,H9,1)),ISNUMBER(FIND($N$7,H9,1))),"",H9)

This gives the standard "0" until numbers are pasted in column H.

I pasted 30 numbers and BLAM! the "0" disappears no sorted numbers appear.

This just started today. I have two other areas I use this formula and everything works just fine.

Does anyone have clue why this is happening just in the column. I've checked whether the column cells were text or numbers and it was numbers on both incoming group and column H.

    Hi khank,

Have you tried these two tricks?

If your data is in A1 then in A2 put the following formulas.

    1. To force a number to text do a = A1 & ""

    2. To force text to numers do a = A1 + 0

What happens to your display of data?

    Did that help?

    Re: Disappearing numbers

    No it didn't work.

But when I pasted another group of numbers it worked????

Originally the inputted number was set up as "text" to allow "0" in the front position.

On the worksheet were all my numbers are located the setup was "general" for those numbers.

When I needed to use a column of numbers from that worksheet, I would "highlight" the numbers and copy. Since I didn't need all the numbers of that column there would be gaps between numbers.

On the sheet were the numbers didn't appear, I highlighted only the first cell location and did a paste, letting the copied group of numbers just "run" down the column (which vary from 20 to 45) and they would paste with no gaps.

I'm not understanding why numbers didn't appear.

Is it just a Excel "quark"?

    Any other suggestions.

    Re: Disappearing numbers

    Hi khank,

By the word "quark" as a problem or error or bug, lets think about it. Excel has been dealing with these problems for about 20 years and have improved their code with each new release and each Office SP.

Read how they must infer what the customer has based on what is in the cell in 2003 Excel at:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ffice.11).aspx
    This was 7 years ago.

I think they are more correct than us about how they deal with things. All we have to do is understand their reasoning and follow it.

In the past, in doing Pivot Tables I get a count instead of a Sum, like I'd expect. It is normally because I have some text in the middle of my numbers. I believe there are very few "quarks" left in the Excel logic.
