    Smile Text data yields values

HI So I would like to input text in one cell and give a value in another; ideally, the spreadsheet I am using would add up a certain number of objects [entered in text value] and produce an organic graph. The graphic part of things I am ok with but if someone could tell me how a numerical value can be raised in a cell by listing textual data in another Id be very grateful.

    Thank you

Sorry Nick, way to vague. You might be looking for a VLOOKUP or some sort of count function, I'm not sure. Can you upload and example spreadsheet of how things are going to be set up and what you expect to see and where? Thanks
