    Matching values by date

    Hi guys,

New here, so apologies that my first post is a question but I am not that excel-savvy and any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have two tables of daily data consisting of two columns, the first being the date and the second being the associated value. I have daily data going back to 1990, so there are 5000+ rows of information; the data comes from two different countries and as such there are different public holidays with the result that the two tables do not tally directly.

I have two problems because of this:

    1. Is there any way to have Excel arrange the tables so that the values match up against a list of all the weekdays between 01/01/90 and present day (I have created this list using the 'Fill Weekdays' function), leaving gaps where there is no data?

    2. Where there are gaps is it possible to have Excel use the last given value?

Many thanks for your help all

    John

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

    Re: Matching values by date

    Thank you Dave,

I have attached a file for two of the countries I am looking at; each row is a daily value representing the closing yield of the 10yr government bond of that country.

The Weekdays column represents every working day from 01/01/90 to present day; I need the data in the next two tables to match up against this, and where there is a date missing (a bank holiday for example) I need the value to equal the value from the day before - i.e the last traded yield.

Hope this helps, if I can do anything more to clarify please let me know.[

just noticed that '10YR UK CASH' has two entries for 02/01/90... human error there please ignore the first value.

    Thanks a lot everyone
