    Lookup vs Nesting

    Hi,

Can anyone please explain which is the better method to calculate formulas - Lookup’s or Nesting in Excel 2007 and in Excel 2003?

We’ve got a formula containing almost 80 ‘If’ nestings in xlsm format and we want to implement the same in xls format without the nesting, using Lookups, so if anybody out there could please comment if thats a good idea? and a feasible one to implement 80 'if' nestings using lookups? There are 3-4 variables in the 'If' nesting and the output is according to a particular combination of those variables.

We are currently using Windows XP Pro OS (Pentium ® DCPU 3.00 GHz, 2 Gb RAM, Dell Optiplex PC) and MS Excel 07 SP2. We access the file from a Network directory.

    Thanks.

    Re: Lookup vs Nesting

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
Where there is a will there are many ways.
