    ABS (absolute) formula cell reference

I'm trying to add the absolute number formula =ABS(C2) to my spreadsheet. When I type the formula into, lets say D2, to reference C2 who's number is -99 it will return 99. But my problems is when I try to copy and paste special the formula down to other cells. When I paste the formula to other cells they all return 99 even if they have a different number. If I copy the formula down to D3,D4,D5 and so on, they will all continue to reference C2 instead of C3,C4,C5 respectively.

I've tried doing the same thing on a new spreadsheet and I can get it to work but not on my spreadsheet which has some standing information on it that will be there every time the user opens the sheet and is used to run the macro. The reason I reference this is because I thought maybe the problem is due to a formatting issue but everything seems normal.

    Any ideas??????

    Hi

Do you have the cell reference 'locked' , i.e. $C$2, if so remove the $ and the reference will update when copied.

    Regards

    Jeff

That is the weird part about it I don't have the cell reference locked. When I click on each cell and look at the formula window it shows each cell reference i.e. D3 shows C3 and D4 shows C4 and so on but the actual cel value is that of C2. If I go back and click into the formula of one of these cells and hit enter then it would reference the correct cell.

Have you tried with another computer? If not, maybe one of us could look at it and see if we share the problem.

Btw what did you mean with paste special? This should be a routine copy-paste, right?

Edit: one thing came into my mind. You could make a copy of that sheet and see if the problem still exists.

An example file is never useless!

Tried an example function of mine and got errors?
    - Had you found them, replace ; with , and , with .

It sounds like you have Workbook Calculation set to Manual instead of Automatic.
