How to: Display typed text when a zero firgure is entered

    Hi,

This is actually for my ebay spreadsheet, what i'm trying to do is ad in advertised shipping cost, but some times I do free shipping so I would like to enter a 0 into the cell and have the expression "FREE" replace the 0 but still have the zero numerical value.

Pretty sure can't do this, a cell can only have one value.

You could put in the adjacent (B2) cell, if it helps

    =IF(A2=0,"FREE","")
If you need any more information, please feel free to ask.

You could format the cell as, for example, General;-General;"FREE"
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

    Thanks guys,

You see i'm trying to get everything to fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 print out and I dont have any more room for another column. And that General;-General;"FREE" didn't work either, it throws off the next column to #VALUE

    Didn't work in what fashion?

If you enter 0 in a cell formatted in that fashion, the cell displays FREE; is there something else it's supposed to do?

It does ... formatting just changes how numbers are displayed, it NEVER changes the underlying value.

Not sure if formatting number with "Free" is going to work as when there is in fact a number other than zero it will include free??

I think it may be better to change the cell that references it to assume zero if "Free" is in cell.

It just displays 0 as the text FREE; nothing exotic, Marcol.

OK, Awesome! it works, Shg was totally correct. I'm just an idiot I was trying to input General;-General;"FREE" into the formula bar, not format cells.....custom. Thanks it works great!
