Copying formual without the file name

    HI
I am wondering if there is a way no to display file names in the formulas when you copy paste the formula from another workbook. For example: if the formula is =sum(A1:A5) when you copy it from lets say Book1 to another workbook, formula shows =sum([Book 1.xlsx]A1:[Book 1.xlsx]A12)..I just would like to copy paste the formula to a new workbook as it is

    Thanks

Re: Copying formual without the file name

I find if I go up to the formula bar and copy everything except the "=" sign I can paste the formula in another book without getting the first book's name.

Re: Copying formual without the file name

    name range of the cells
by this way you will shorten your formula
but still it will refer to the name of the workbook
suppose you name a range "data" in a workbook
    named "book1"
the formula will look like this if you use sum for example:
    =sum(book1!data)
you see it is easier now to read it
