Excel 2007 : lookup on a list of names containing the value

hi,

i have hard time trying to extract a list of shipyard names from indivdual ship owners.
try vlookup, but that aint going to work, as the value will "grow" as individual ship owers have different number of ship yards.

maybe the worksheet will show you a clearer picture of my intention

thanks for the advice, but however i will only need to find the Cell A1 ship owner's ship yard only.
is it possible to do without using the pivot table?

Hi,

I don't know what info do you thing is more important, but I think this should go. See attachment. By helping you, I have lerned pivot tables my self . Pivot table is powerfull tool for statistics/reports.

I don't understand.

If you want to count the values for an individual yard only, use countif()

=countif(<list of yards>,<yard name>)
