Best file format for large file

    Hi,

I'm working with several extremely large spreadsheets (in between 60 and 100 MBs each). They're .csv's and I found that when I saved them as .xlsx or .xlsb their size shrank dramatically.
However, they're still a bit too large for excel to manipulate them without periodically crashing. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for either:

    1) the best file format for large spreadsheets (i am not doing any complicated functions, just SUM and SUMIF)

    2) alternative spreadsheet programs that done have as much functionality as excel but might be better suited to manipulate the data in the way I want to

    Thanks!

    Conor
