Unable to copy data from one workbook to another

I have a worksheet in a workbook that I want to update on a daily basis using data from a worksheet in another workbook. My usual method is just to select all and copy and paste. Yet, for this newly created workbook, the external data isn't copying into it. I've unprotected all the effected destination worksheets but still nothing.

The copy & paste method works with data within the same worksheet however.

It's a .xlsm worksheet in Excel 2007 but the data is coming from a .xlsx worksheet.

Is this a bug that I've run into or have I missed something?

what do the macros do in the .xlsm workbook?

It would help if you could post samples of both workbooks.
