    Gantt Chart

I'm tryin to create a gantt chart to use as a production plan, but i want to include line downtime. so if a line is off/down for two hours, it will extend the runtime by two hours. etc.. see email attached as to what i've got so far.

Basically if there is any downtime during the production time then extend the runtime, then check again if there is any further downtime during the extended runtime etc...

    Re: Gantt Chart

Tim, can you please get a bit more specific:

so if a line os of for two hours,
    what does that mean?
it will extend the runtime by two hours. etc.. see email attached
there is no email attached. There is an Excel file attached, and a fairly large one, at that. I'm sure your issue can be demonstrated with a data sample of less than 100 KB.

Excel requires you to be specific and error-free in your functions and formulas before it will answer to your request. It would be great if you could do the same when communicating with people, proof read your post and take into consideration that we are not mind readers.

    thanks

    Re: Gantt Chart

Can you shed any light on how you arrived at "This is what I get" ??

It's a merged cell over more than a dozen columns. How did it get merged? Who merged it? Based on what information?

Simply select the correct cells and merge those instead of the ones that are wrong.

Or what is the missing element?

    Re: Gantt Chart

So, what does that file tell us?

What's the input data? What's the expected result?

Do we have to guess it all?

Again: What are we looking at? What would you like to change? Why? What is the logic? This is getting rather tiresome. The helpers here normally don't have to beg for information to solve the problem.

    Re: Gantt Chart

    WHAT IS HERE
PLAN (COLUMN C to P) is hard typed
Column T looks up priority from Column D
Column W looks for run time excluding any down time
Downtime is shown above GANTT (1 means line off)

    WHAT IS HAPPENING
The Gantt chart in green is what the current formulae are showing
Gantt is filled green if between start and finish time & Black for changeover

    WHAT I NEED
If there is any downtime during the run, I need it to increase the runtime accordingly
i.e Original planned run of 9h45mins but 2 hours downtime during this run so actual run is 11h45mins
but this then runs over a second period of downtime or 1 hour so actual run is 12h45mins

But changeovers can take place during machine downtime.

    Re: Gantt Chart

What do the numbers above the Gantt signify? What is a 1? A minute? An hour? A day?

What about the big "block" of entries from CQ2 to DV8? How should that affect or not affect the coloured bar?

    Re: Gantt Chart

above the Gantt is all the lines, a 1 signifies that the line is off, each cell is 15 minutes.

CQ2 to DV8 signifies whole plant off for entire shift (just to be treated as down time where changeovers cannot take place.)

I confess, I'm getting rather tired of pulling information out of you.

    Re: Gantt Chart

sorry, trying to supply as much info as you need,
Basically if the line is down, there is no production, so production run (coloured bar) must extend until the run is completed during free time .
I've tried to display this graphically on this attachment,

I know this has changed a bit, but Ops Manager has informed me that engineers (required for change overs) will be working the same hours as operators so changeovers cannot take place whilst the entire plant is off.

I'm sorry if this is a bit blurred, but i'm not sure how to explain it.

    Re: Gantt Chart

sorry last coloured bar on right will be the same size as the last green bar as no downtime scheduled.

    Re: Gantt Chart

teylyn, sorry if this is a bit tedious, but i thought that the sheet would show what would happen to the bar, basically,
if HPL9 is off for 1 hour during a production run, the scheduled production will take 1 hour longer, (extend the bar by one hour),
if HPL9 is off for one one during a changeover, the changeover can continue.
if the whole plant is off (all lines off) for 8hours no production or change overs can take place.so both production and change overs extended by 8 hours.

    Hope this clarifies my needs....

Let me know if you require any further info.

    Tim,

I can feel the reluctance of other members to pitch in, because your descriptions are almost, but not entirely, unlike beyond comprehensible.

    Re: Gantt Chart

Tim, you know your workbook better than anybody else here. It's easy to assume that we're all on the same page, but we aren't.

When you use jargon and technical terms specific to your industry, it is not necessarily helpful to the members here. When you refer to concepts, explaining what should happen if X occurs before/after Y, then that may make sense to you, but not to us.

To really explain what you want to see, you need to make your descriptions topic-independent. Do not refer to your workplace parameters, which most of us are not familiar with, but rather to hard and fast Excel cells.

Explain it to us like this:

I need cell A1 to show a value of (whatever) because cell X88 has a value of (whatever) and cell Z99 is less than (whatever), while cell Y77 may not be less than (whatever) or more than (whatever)

These are parameters that we can follow and apply.

I have no idea what a "changeover" is and how it affects your "production run". I don't even know what a "production run" is, for that matter. Don't assume that we know what you know. You have specialist skills and expert knowledge that we don't have.

To find a solution to your issue we need to agree on a common ground where we all mean "X" when we say "X".

Do you see where I'm coming from?

    cheers
