    15 Significant digits for excel

I'm trying to import a tracking number from the post office from a csv file. The tracking number is 19 digits, so excel converts it to a 15 digit number with 4 zeroes on the end and it turns it into scientific notation.

I then open the csv in Notepad, save as text file, re-open with excel and do the comma delimited thing and turn the column into text from the text import wizard.

Is there anyway to make excel NOT convert when it opens a file? I guess I want to skip the step where I have to open csv in Notepad and then convert to text file and then re-open.
    1. Can I have excel automatically open the text import wizard when opening a csv file?
    2. Can I have it not truncate 19 digit numbers?
    3. Can I have excel not automatically display/convert a number in scientific notation. (Very annoying when dealing with 13 digit ISBN's which are the numbers on the back of books.)

Change the file extension to txt, use the import wizard, and import the field as text.

Thanks for the reply. I am already doing that. Is there another way?

Maybe, but the way I suggested works.

The way you suggested was already in the original post and thus not very helpful but thanks for trying.

There's no need to open the csv files with Notepad and saving it as a txt. You can simply rename the file in Windows Explorer.

There's no one-click solution for opening the file, as far as I can see, so you will need to go through the wizard, so you can define the pertinent column to be treated as text.

    This file, scratch.txt
    12345678901234567, Horse
    22345678901234567, Cow
... imported with the first field as Text:
          --------A-------- --B---
      1 12345678901234567 Horse
      2 22345678901234567 Cow
