excel link updates but overides data
HI, I have several excel (excel 2003) sheets in the same workbook that
changes info weekly. I have linked these sheets to a master sheet which
enters the info automatically for me. I consider the master sheet an
"archive" and would like to maintain the weeks in that sheet. The other
sheets would have the info cleared and new data entered. I do this to stop
the bulk and for graph purposes.
Method:
example sheets..... books, supplies, Tickets (sheets which data change weekly)
Master (linked sheet for updating)
using date, (A) item (B) and amount (C) as column headings
all entries start at row 5
under a1 and down the date
under b1 and down the item
under c1 and down the amount
The Master has three separate areas on the one sheet
for book, supplies and tickets with the same headings
books
a1 = book!a5
b2= book!b5
c3= book!c5
Supplies
d1=supplies!d5
e2=supplies!e5 etc etc
The problem is as I want those that enter data to start at row 5 once
the changing sheets are cleared for new entry. I can't have them jumping
to row 200 for example because that is where the new week might first
have an empty cell. For certain reasons not explained here, just won't work for my situation. I have to clear the data.
So my master is showing the data from rows 5 to lets say 200 thats great
but when the next week comes along what they now enter in either book or supplies on that now free line 5, it changes in Master as well.
I see why it does because I am referencing the info in that cell but I just
don't know how to get around this. I need a formula to allow for this which I'll copy down for each column in master with the autofill to step up
a cell. I want the master to hold all the data old and new.
This is for a computer at work and they are not too happy if coding is required so if you know of a formula it would be appreciated. jtar
