Angry Can't see my excel add-in in 2007

Hello Folks, new to this forum. I am trying to install a third-party excel add-in in 2007 which was probably created in a earlier version. However, for the life of me, I can't see it anywhere on the user interface after I "install" it. What is going on? I checked under all tabs "Formulas, Data, etc" and its not there! Am I missing a trick here?

    Any help would be appreciated

    cheers

That is the problem. I can't see the add-ins tab even after installing the add-in and restarting windows and excel. Any way how I can manually launch the add-ins tab on the quick access toolbar?

The addins tab is only visible if you have at least one addin installed.

From Office Button choose Excel Options then Addins & browse for the addin
    Hope that helps.

    Andy,

I did install a custom add-in by going through the steps and checking the add-in from the add-in menu. Still nothing! After I hit okay, the add-in tab doesn't show up even after closing and restarting excel. Could there be a problem with the add-in ???

When you look at the addins list under Excel Options, is the selected add-in listed in the Disabled Items section at the bottom?
If not, does it actually provide a toolbar?

Re: Can't see my excel add-in in 2007

Okay I did some more trials. I tried installing another custom add-in and this time it worked. I see the add-ins tab with the selected add-in. However, I do not see the add-in that I really want!. I tried selecting the one that I want and installing it just like the other one. But it doesn't show under the add ins tab. I am beginning to believe there is some problem in the .xla file.. I am a dummy when it comes to programming so I do not know what the problem could be. this is an add-in that was passed to me by a colleague of mine who got it from a colleague of his. Feeling like pulling my hair out as I deperately need this to work to continue my project. Could some please tell me what the problem could be? Can anyone look at the file and tell why it is not loading up ?? I have not tried it in 2003 but I have see it being installed on another colleague's machine running 2003 before. I tires it on 2007 and 2010 and get the same problem. Unfortunately I do not have 2003.

okay romperstomper, both the selected add-ins appear under Active Applications add-ins list. However only one of them shows up under the add-ins tab.

Okay thanks! Here is the add-in.. I had to create zip file because apparently the website does not support .xla uploads.

without seeing actual code it's hard to say.
Maybe the addin has been written so any UI only appears under a certain set of circumstances.

Normally adds create a toolbar or menu item straight away via code in the Workbook_open or Addin_Install or Auto_Open event. But others may use Application level events to only build a UI when say a specific workbook is opened.

Re: Can't see my excel add-in in 2007

    The addin has no UI.

It contains a UDF for use in the worksheet, so like this but with 5 arguments contained within the brackets.

    =COLEBROOK( .... )

Re: Can't see my excel add-in in 2007

hmmm I see... my bad. but then, how would I know which arguements (parameters) to enter and in what order?? If i try "=COLEBROOK()" in a cell, I was expecting for some user interface to pop up so I could enter my arguements. Otherwise, I'd have to know in advance which arguements to put and in what order, which I don't.

PS this is an engineering formula ..

if you click fx button in the formula bar and code to the User Defined Functions section and click your function.
You should get to see the argument names which may give you a clue.

    debit_m3_par_s, diametre_m, longueur_m, rugosite_mm, temperature_°C
