    VLOOKUP - Suppressing blank dates

    Hello,

I'm trying to get to grips with VLOOKUP but struggling a bit so would appreciate some help. I'm trying to pull through some dates from a worksheet and tag them onto the end of a table. Here's a sample of the formula - =VLOOKUP($A4, Sheet2!$A3:$H40,3). Cell A4 contains a key which is being used to locate the corresponding dates. The formula works fine and pulls through the dates, so fine up to there...

However, when a user has not entered a date it returns "00 January 1900". Is there a way of making Excel suppress the date if it's either blank or equal to the above (whichever is easier)? Unfortunately, the users will not always know the date so I will have to handle the NULLs somehow...!

Any help would be appreciated - hope the above is clear.

    Cheers - John.

    You mean?

    =IF($A4="","", VLOOKUP($A4, Sheet2!$A3:$H40,3))
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Alternatively - leave the formula as is and apply a Custom Format to the cells containing the VLOOKUP of: dd mmmm yyyy;;;@
