set up automatic currency detection in another column

    Hi All,

I need help with Excel again, basically what I want to do is as follows. I have a list of names that need to be automatically assigned by excel to a currency.

i.e When ASDA is typed in, in the next collum labelled Currency it should automatically display USD.

    Another Example Vodafone......GBP

    Santander......EUR

    etc.

set up a table on a new sheet listing each of the companies and their currency, then use a VLOOKUP to select the appropriate currency.

    For example:

Please Login or Register to view this content.

Select all the cells in the table and give the range a name, for example, currencies.

Then, the formula for a value in cell A2 would be:

Please Login or Register to view this content.

    Regards

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

I think that, strictly speaking, this should be a new thread as your original question has been answered.

    Anyway, see the attached workbook.

Just give the list of companies, which you already have as part of the currencies table, a name ... Companies, for example. Then make the Data Validation source "=Companies"

    Regards

Sorry, my fault ... see attached.

The easy way to name a (simple) range is to select the cells and then type a name in the Name box ... just above and to the left of the column headings.

That's not necessarily so. If the question relates to and adds to the current question, it's perfectly fine to use the same thread. It might get more attention as a new question with 0 answers, though.
