Separation of Data in a Thread

    Dear Sir,

I want to know how do I separate a data in a column into separate parts.

I know I can use lookup, len search etc. But my skill is such that I am unable to write complex formula.

Eg: this data WHICH IN A SINGLE COLUMN

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
    Hope that helps.

i think text to columns would probably do that data/text to columns delimited but as roy says a few examples of data is really required to see exactly

You should be able to use Text to Columns. Add sufficient columns next to the column to split then follow the steps in the Wizard from the Data Tab -> Text to Columns

    The file downloads OK.

Take a look at the Text to Columns method that has been suggested by martin & me.

Re: Separation of Data in a Thread

I am using Excel 2007. Text to column seem to be able to work although I wanted to see some formula. As for the downloading, whether I click on the file, it will open another tab asking me to login into the forum. After logging in, I find myself at the same thread. Using the Save as function appear to be able to save the file as HTML.

Re: Separation of Data in a Thread

There doesn't appear to be a problem with downloading. I can download files fine.

I can't see why you need formulas when Text to Columns will do the task without the need for formulas
