Find combo of numbers for a specific value

I am trying to figure out how to calculate a "Charge" for a lumber mill. The mill cuts 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, and 2x12's lumber in lengths of 8-10-12-14-16-18-20-22-24 feet. A "Charge" must be 96' in length and contain only one width of lumber such as 2x6's, etc...One day they will dry 2x6's and the next day they may dry 2x12's just depending on how many "stacks" of lumber is in the yard inventory.

I don't see how your question relates to the other thread -- actualy, I don't understand your question at all. Could you explain further?

Sorry I didn't explain it very well. The attached formula is close to what I'm looking for but instead of 5 numbers I have 9:

8-10-12-14-16-18-20-22-24

My sum to find (specific value) is 96. Hope this explains it better. Thank You.

If you're comfortable using an add-in, try this.

1. Unzip and save the attachment someplace where you can find it.

2. Do Tools > Add-Ins, browse to the folder, and select the file, i.e., CombinationSums.xla

3. Do Alt+F8 to bring up the macro dialog, paste ShowCSForm in the Macro name box, click Options, and assign the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S (you only need to do this once).

4. Do Ctrl+Shift+S and follow instructions when the form pops up.

The add-in works beautifully. Thank You very much for that. I have attached an example inventory sheet from the Sawmill. Any additional help in automating the process will be appreciated.
