    Hyperlinking problem

    Hello All,

I am having a bit of an issue with hyperlinking.

I am creating a menu system in excel for work which has different worksheets (within the one document).I have a main menu screen worksheet which has a number of hyperlinks leading to a number of different secondary menu worksheets. In each of these secondary menu worksheets i am trying to implement hyperlinks to documents on a network drive.

Initially everything works fine until i save the document. At this stage all the document hyperlinks to the network stop working (error: the address of this site is not valid, check the address and try again). I have researched this on the web and the most common response is that you need to set your hyperlink base to the actual network drive. When i do this the hyperlinks documents on the network drive work perfectly. Although the hyperlinks linking between worksheets (between the menus) stops working and and they all just link to the network drive instead. If i try to edit hyperlink with these and select the appropriate desitination worksheet (within the same document) it doesnt make a difference (ie it cant override the hyperlink base). If i remove the hyperlink base address then the hyperlinks between worksheets begin working again but the hyperlinks to documents on the network drive stop working again.

Does anyboy know of any solutions to this dilemna?
Is there a way of fixing the hyperlink to documents without putting in a hyperlink base address?
Am i missing something obvious here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done alot of looking around but can find the answer yet.

I have been using excel 2003 and 2007. Same issue with both.

    Many Thanks

    Chris

    Re: Hyperlinking problem

One possible solution is to go to "File"-> "Properties" -> "Summary" and set the "Hyperlink Base" to "C:\"

This will save all hyperlink paths relative to the C:\ drive, which hopefully everyone who uses this workbook has.

    Re: Hyperlinking problem

    Hi Whizbang,

    Thanks for the reply.

When i set the hyperlink base address under file | properties all the the hyperlink to files on the network drive work perfectly. But when i do this, the hyperlinks to other worksheets within the same file (workbook) dont work anymore. When i select these hyperlinks they just open a windows explorer page of the C:\ directory.

SO basically i need to be able to link to documents on the network drive as well as link to other worksheets within the same workbook. Because i need to set the hyperlink base to get the external links to network drive to work , then my internal hyperlinks to different worksheets stop working and point to C:/ instead.

How can i do both within the one excel file?

    Anybody got any ideas?

    Thanks

    Chris
