    Format date

I have date entered in a cell as 7/12/2010 12:00AM but I want to to display as 12-Jul AM. I don't want to actually see the time. 7/12/10 AM would also be acceptable,

    Is this possible?

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Format date

    Use a custom Format

    dd-mmm AM/PM
    Hope that helps.

    Re: Format date

When entering a new date, that custom format works for AM, but I cant get it to work for PM. These dates are also used in calculations and that's not working either.

With this new format, how do I type in the data? I don't even care about that time, I just want to be able to break up a day into AM and PM.

    Thanks again!!

    Re: Format date

You actually have to enter a PM when typing in the time or use the 24 hour clock time so that the cell is identified as holding a PM time.

    NBVC,
Thanks for your help with this. When I type in 7/12/10 PM, that is exactly what is displayed. However, it does not work in a calculation. For instance. the adjacent cell is adding 1 to 7/12/10 PM and is returning a #VALUE! error.

    Re: Format date

Nevermind, I got it to work using a 24 hour clock. If I type in 7/12/10 13:00 I get 7/12/10 PM and it works in the calculation

    Thanks a ton!!!!

    Re: Format date

As per your original post, you should be entering a full time and date entry.. and the format of the cell will be converted to 12-Jul PM. Then you can do the math in the other cell.
