    Date grouping

Hi I have an extract from Access.
The data has the following : MACHINE, DATE, SCRAP QTY

I want to display the date as month and year only : done by custom MMMM YYYY
I now want the month to total together.

So from this data I would like to get:
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500
    MACHINE 1 DATE JANUARY SCRAP:500

    Results being :
    MACHINE: 1 DATE: JANUARY SCRAP:3000

There is probably an easy answer to this, but im at a loss, ive had a play about and just got myself more and more frustrated. I have also done the usual google search.

    can anyone help??

    Thanks

    Re: Date grouping

You can use a Pivot Table..

Go to Data|Pivot Table and Pivot Chart...

Click Next.. ensure all your data is selected in the Range field.

Click Next...select if you want result in New sheet or current sheet..

Click Layout... drag the button with title same as column to summarize from right area to the Data area... Drag the remaining buttons to the Row Area in order of that you want to see in Pivot table.

Once done, click OK and then click Finish

Right click on the column of dates in the Pivot table, and select Group and Show Detail, and then select Group.... Select Months and click Ok.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
