Taking partial data from one column and placing it in another

    Hi guys,

I have dates and times in a single column and I would like to remove the times out and place them into a new column.

They are all different dates and times and there's nearly 2000 of them so I hate the thought of having to do them manually, one by one.

    They're basically like this:

    01/07/2010 12:15
    30/06/2010 11:10
    29/06/2010 14:25

    Can this be done?

Put =INT(A1) for dates and =A1-INT(A1) for times and format cells as dates/times
Never use Merged Cells in Excel

Copy and paste to the new column, select the column and right click format cells, then select Number - Date and choose the appropriate date format

    or

If your dates & times were in column A (A1 to A10) and you wanted to display just dates in column C (for example), use the following in cell C1 and drag down to C10:

    =TEXT(A1,"dd/mm/yyyy")

Thanks for the quick response guys but it doesn't work as I can't format them, all but a couple stay exactly the same, no matter if I format them to time or date.

The copy, paste and format was an ideal solution and would have solved the problem straight away.

Any other way to do it, for example if I copy and paste the column again, is there a way to first delete the LAST 6 characters and then to delete the FIRST 11 from the second column?

I managed to figure it out myself, which obviously I had to do but my dates and times were recognised as text and with the help of ASAP Utilities, I was able to convert them back to numbers so that I could then format them as suggested - which worked a treat - so many thanks pb71 as you've saved me one hell of a workload.

ASAP Utilities is free btw for single users and is by no means a plug from me.
