    Question Link to another page

I have a spreadsheet in the design process. I have a page called Mar 2010 on which I have a cell called 'carried forward'. The next month (by some coincidence is called Apr 2010) has another cell called 'brought forward'. Is there a way that I can link this 'brought forward' cell to the 'carried forward' cell on the Mar 2010 page? I seem to remember doing this in a past life but my memory is failing me (senior moment).
    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Brian

    Re: Link to another page

Type = in the destination cell then simply select the cell on the other sheet
    Hope that helps.

Thanks for your prompt answer. I did what you suggested but after selecting the Mar 2010 cell and then going to the Apr 2010 page the formula bar shows'Apr 2010'!L3 and the brought forward cell shows £0.00 instead of -£150.00. If I change 'Apr 2010'!L3 to 'Mar 2010'!L3 then it works. I do not understand why it's doing this.

It didn't work because 'Apr 2010'!L3 was referencing Cell L3 on the april page, the page you wanted to bring the information to, it needed to reference Cell L3 on the march page the page you wanted to get the info from.

That's why when you changed it to 'Mar 2010'!L3 it then worked because it was then get the Cell L3 on the correct page March.

Now how the 'Apr 2010'!L3 reference got there, I don't know unless you just happened to click in the right cell but on the wrong page somehow or if you typed it in and had a typo and put Apr instead of Mar.

I have checked and double checked and am definitely in the correct box on the correct page. It must be my bad karma.

    Thanks anyway

    Re: Link to another page

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

OK, I will look into providing a dummy workbook today and hopefully attach it later on. How do I add an attachment anyway?

    Thanks

Here is the dummy file. All I need to do is carry forward the -£300 to the next month. There might be a better way of doing this spreadsheet, if so, any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Link to another page

Well I don't know what happened but I was using a PC to do the spreadsheet and as I haven't internet access with it used my Macbook to upload the dummy file. I then tested the uploaded file on my Macbook and guess what? it worked. I do not understand this.

If anyone has any suggestions about the rest of the spreadsheet please let me know.

Are you working with a Mac or PC?

Your table of data should have no completely empty rows or columns.

I wouldn't have individual sheets,I would have one data sheet with a date column added then use a PivotTable

I was working with a PC but am now using Mac. You mean instead of having individual month sheets, just have one sheet with a continual running total? I though that I had a date column. What is a PivotTable anyway?

Sorry for being so inadequate but I am trying to learn.

    Thanks a lot

    Re: Link to another page

Continuing with the saga of linking to another page, is it possible to have an automatic link to a cell on the previous page? I can now get it to work by linking from say April to March. When I put another month in the 'brought forward' still links to the March cell which is pretty obvious really but how can I automatically link to the previous page?
