removing paranthesis from text in a cell

    Hi All,

I want to remove parenthesis from the numbers in the cell. then i will separate the two numbers in two different cells. My data look like this:
    A1
    9520 (8900)

    desired format

    A1 B1
    9520 8900

Is there any way to remove the parenthesis and separate the two numbers.

This would be great help to me....

    Thanks in Advance..

    With Sincere Regards,

Use Text to Columns with ( as the delimiter. That will split your data into two columns, with Column B having values like 8900)

then use Text to columns on column B with ) as the delimiter.

    Hi Teylyn,

Thanks a lot for yur answer. I am sorry to say that i couldn't follow your steps. Are u talking about text import wizard. There are three steps what should be the specification for each step.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Upanada,

If your data that looks like

    9520 (8900)

is in column A, select column A and, depending on the Excel version you are working with, click Data - Text to columns (in 2003) or Data Ribbon - Text to columns (Excel 2007 or later). Select "Delimited", click Next, then tick "other" and enter the ( as the delimiter.

This will separate your data into two columns. Column A will have

    9520

    and column B will have

    8900)

Now select column B, do the Text to columns thing again and select Other ) as the delimiter.

This will render column B as

    8900

which means, your numbers are now distributed among the two columns.

    Does that work for you?

    Hi Teylyn,

Your method really works. But delimited option is not able to separate two numbers in to two different columns. If i will get rid of parenthesis then how to do it for multiple columns simultaneously. you can see the attachment to the first thread. I am sorry i have not attached the file with my first thread.
