How do I use Data Validation and Index Match

    Good morning.

I am hoping you can help me with a formula I am struggling with. I am creating a cost calculator to make my clients lives a little easier. An example of what I need would be as follows:

I have a data validation list for the client to choose their entertainment requirements the list it cell links to is:

    Please Select
    None £0.00
    Pianist £150.00
    Disco £275.00
    Murder Mystery £550.00
    Two Table Casino £450.00
    Three Table Casino £600.00
    Three Piece Band £650.00
    Four Piece Band £800.00
    Five Piece Band £950.00

Each of these items has a cash value that I have listed in the adjacent cell to the list. I need excel to recognize that when they choose Disco (for example) the results cell will show £275.00. I have tried using MATCH and IF functions but cannot work out how to do it.

I apologise that my first post is asking for help but any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I am more than happy to email the spreadsheet for you to play with if that helps (attached)

but please change your title to " How do I use Data Validation and Index Match

I'm not sure how to do it. I can only edit the body of the message and not the title. I will try again

Re: Please help with a formula for my cost calculator

    Forum Rules And Guidance
    1. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change the title of the thread, click EDIT on the original post, then click the Go Advanced button, then change the title. If two or more hours have passed, the EDIT button will not appear, and you need to ask a moderator to change the title.
