Post Matching separate worksheet and then subtracting their values

    Hi,

I am a new member of this forum and it helped me add conditional formatting to my excel sheet. However now I am trying to connect two worksheets and am having difficulty with combining the formulas (am I suppose to use Match, Indirect, Index or SumIF...head explodes ).

Here is my what I am trying to do:

I have two worksheets. If the color code, Column C in Inventory worksheet (Inventory!C:C) matches with the color code Column H in Details worksheet (Details!H:H) then I want to subtract the amount of yards used of that color in Column O of Details worksheet (Details!O:O) from the total starting yards of that color found in Inventory worksheet column E (Inventory!E:E).

I have attached the sample worksheet so that you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks so much for your help in advance, if I have posted this in the wrong way or any unacceptable way please let me know and I will fix it immediately.

I am not sure if you want to match line for line or a sum of all matches....

this is for a sum of all matches in the other sheet:

    =E4-SUMIF(Details!H:H,C4,Details!O:O)

    copied down

Is that what you're looking for?

Re: Matching separate worksheet and then subtracting their values

Can someone tell me how to do this same formula only using several sheets that are complied by months. Example I have a worksheet named inventory and multiple worksheets Jan 2013 - Dec 2013 with the sold items that need to be subtracted from the inventory sheet totals for the items sold. This is the formula used and I get an Value error: =F10-SUMIF('JAN 2013:DEC 2013'!C:C,A10,'JAN 2013:DEC 2013'!J:J), not working
