I have an XY Chart that the data is in 2 rows. There is a third row that I would like to have it label the data points on the chart directly. I know there are add-in macros that can do this for older versions of excel that support Macros, but I have Mac 2008 excel and want to share the workbook with other Mac as well as Windows excel 2007 users, which I understand nether support Macros any more.
Bobbo, with no macros, I guess you're out of luck. There is no manual way to assign those labels. You may need to resort to text boxes and refer the text box content to individual cells that hold the labels you want to display.
Can I assign a text box to follow a data point in a chart as the data point can be anywhere in the plot area.
Nope, don't think you can, sorry.
With PC versions of Excel you can manually link data labels to cells.

Thanks Andy, but the title is not the issue it is the data point labels. For an XY Chart Currently excel only allows you to label the plotted data with either the X data or Y data. I am looking for something a third alternative.
I realise you are talking about data labels. But the technique can be used for any of the charts text items, chart title, axis titles and data labels.
WOW! It seems to work. I have to label each point one at a time but that is fine. My chart dynamically scales as well so I will need to play with it for a while and see it when I chart a point that I did not plot is turned back on it labels it correctly. I will report back to you on my findings.
