    Excel 2010 Beta

I am trying to "capture" data from a single cell in one workbook and "add" it to another cell in a different workbook. I am trying to make it so that one workbook will contain the formula results of manipulated data which will then be referenced in the other workbook which will contain the final format of the results of said data manipulation. In Excel 2003, it used to be really easy to do this as you would just begin a formula "+" and migrate to the other workbook containing the data result, click on the cell and voila!

What am I doing wrong? Is there a security setting that I must modify to allow for this type of workbook collaboration?

Any help is very much appreciated!

As far as this goes, nothing has changed between 2003 and 2007. I'm not sure about 2010. You begin in your "receiving" cell, type = and then move to your "transmitting" cell. The workbook/sheet references should automatically appear in the formula.

I know, and it isn't working the way it is supposed to! UGH!

    EDIT

You gave me an idea...I closed the "transmitting" cell workbook(it was opened separately, i.e. not within the other so as to create an ability to jump from workbook to workbook in the "view" tab(in 2010)) and reopened it within the existing Excel that was already opened. Bam! It works. Not sure if that is a bug or not...but thanks a ton for the post that got me thinking differently.

    I love this forum!

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
    Hope that helps.
